Arthur "Pete" Brantley Jr., 79, of Gloster, died Aug. 7, 2009, at his residence.

Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster and 11 a.m. Monday until services there at 2 p.m., with the Revs. Robert Toney and Kevin Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Brantley was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Amite County to Arthur and Lillie Reeves Brantley. He was a retired logging contractor, member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Liberty and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a loving father and husband and loved his family dearly. He loved being around people and had many friends. His family said his motto was, "You can't have too many friends."

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Brantley, and five sisters, Winnie Huff, Ruth Rollins, Ann Foster, Flora Mae Dawson and infant sister Mary Louise Brantley.

Survivors include his wife, Merle Brantley of Gloster; three daughters, Glenda Mizell and husband Dennis, Charlotte Ravencraft and Wesley Sterling, and Darlene Thornton and husband Robert, all of Gloster; a sister, Sarah Brantley Whittington of Bossier City, La.; five grandchildren, Melanie Brantley Netterville and husband Chuck, April Ravencraft Pullen and husband Bill, Shuna Mizell, Brantley Ravencraft and Lindsey Thornton; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Netterville, Beau Pullen and Seth Pullen; three stepchildren, Billy Jones and wife Ellen, Pam Brumfield and husband Harry, and David Jones and wife Sherie; six step-great-grandchildren, Dusty Jones, Nicole Jones, Tylyn Brumfield, Kayla Jones, Tayler Jones and Hanna Jones; three special friends, Bob Etheridge, Keith Ravencraft and Sammy Whittington; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Brantley Ravencraft, Keith Ravencraft, Jerry Boykin, Bob Etheridge, Kevin Dawson, Harry Brumfield, "Little" Glen Sterling, Joey Dawson, Sammie Whittington, Jackie Whittington, D.D. Dawson and Marcell Reeves.

Honorary pallbearers are W.B. Netterville, A.J. "Buster" Havard, Charles T. Dixon, Dessick Dahl, Sonny Smith, David Shell and "Big" Glen Sterling.
