Was the 4th of 4 children of John Henry and Jane (Seberry) Allingham.

He emigrated in 1906, leaving Ireland on August 25th on the S.S. Columbia and arriving in New York City on September 2nd.

He was naturalized as a U.S. citizen on March 16, 1942 at U.S. District Court, Pittsburgh, PA.

He married Jeanie "Jennie" Leith McGrandle on January 7, 1909 in Pittsburgh, PA.

The couple had 9 children:
1) John Henry Allingham (1910-1938)
2) Joseph Nevin Allingham (1911-1960)
3) (Unnamed female stillborn) Allingham (1913)
4) Robert "Bert" Allingham Jr. (1914-1988)
5) Francis "Frank" Lindsey Allingham (1915-2002)
6) James Lynn Allingham (1918-1918)
7) Edward Carson Allingham (1919-1996)
8) James Leith Allingham (1920-1986)
9) Ruth May "Mae" Allingham (1924-1991)

He was a retired custodian for the University of Pittsburgh.

He died from colon cancer at age 81.
