Elaine Woodard Brown, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on February 27, 2009. Elaine was born on April 20, 1920, in Douglas, Georgia, the youngest child of the late Robert Rhett Woodard and Rhetta Finney Woodard. Elaine was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Newton Brown; her sisters, Sarah Woodard Rudolph, Mildred Woodard Lee, and Mary Lois Woodard Napier; her brothers Vernon, Jack and Julian Woodard; and a special niece, Sally Rudolph Miller. Elaine grew up in Douglas, Georgia, where she was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and attended the Douglas public schools. Elaine later received degrees from Georgia State College for Women and Louisiana State University. She taught high school English in the Quitman, Georgia, schools before going to Jacksonville, Florida, where for many years she held various positions in the Duval County School System, first as a high school librarian and later as a district-wide supervisor. Elaine is survived by one nephew, John Rudolph of Goldsboro, NC; nieces, Nancy Rudolph Goff of Surf City, NC; Elaine Napier Duggar, of Tallahassee, FL; Joyce Woodard White, of Columbus, NC; and Ann Woodard Ludvigsen of Atlanta, GA. In addition, Elaine leaves behind a number of great-and great-great-grandnieces and grandnephews who will miss her very much. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service and interment of ashes will take place 2 p.m. EDT Sunday, March 15th, 2009 in Douglas, Georgia, under the direction of Sims Funeral Home, Douglas. Culley's MeadowWood Riggins Road Funeral Home (850-877-8191) in charge of local arrangements.
