Wiley Julian Woodard

Mr. Wiley Julian Woodard, 90, of Waycross died early Saturday morning at his residence. He was born in Douglas, Georgia to the late Robert Rhett Woodard and Rhetta Finney Woodard. He graduated from Douglas High School, and Georgia State Teacher's College in Statesboro, Georgia. Mr. Woodard received his Master's Degree from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. He came to Waycross in August of 1939 to teach. He taught for 35 years in the Waycross City School System where he became known as "Coach Buck". He served as a football coach for many years and was named Star Teacher at Waycross High School in 1959.

Mr. Woodard served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Ashley Ludvigsen, two brothers, Vernon Woodard, Jack Woodard, and three sisters, Sarah Rudolph, Mary Lois Napier, and Mildred Lee. Mr. Woodard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Georgia Woodard of Waycross, two daughters, Joyce White and her husband Ronnie of Columbus, North Carolina, Ann Ludvigsen and her husband Ken of Grayson, Georgia, three grandchildren, Cindy Dusenbury and her husband Trey of Columbus, North Carolina, Chris White and his wife Shea of Columbus, North Carolina, Rebecca Ludvigsen of Grayson, Georgia, four great grandchildren, Tanner Garrett, Georgia Garrett, Makenzie White, Landon White all of Columbus, North Carolina, a sister, Elaine Brown of Tallahassee, Florida and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A graveside service will be held 2 pm, Tuesday in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5-7 pm, at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
