MELBOURNE — Neal John "N.J." Moore, 88, of Melbourne died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at his home.

Born Sept. 2, 1923, in Portales, N.M., he was the son of Garnett and Sarah Carmichael Moore.

He retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. While living in North Hollywood, Calif., he worked for Max Factor Cosmetics. He married Alma Rush in 1977 in Yuma, Ariz.

Survivors include two stepsons, Philip Melton of Alma and Jerry Melton of Fort Smith; five step-grandchildren, Rodney Melton of Alma, Rhonda Didion-Jurgens and Richard Melton, both of Fort Smith, Sandy Williams of Bentonville and Christina Sexton of Clarksville,; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 34 years; three brothers, John Jacob Astor Moore, Howard Peyton Moore and Andrew Garnett Moore; and four sisters, Edith Charlotte Moore Turner, Vera Mae Moore, Gladys Margaret Moore Dixon and Pearl Moore.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne with Rick Burke officiating. Burial will be in Combs Cemetery at Melbourne under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.

Pallbearers will be Clovis Vest, Franklin "Fuzzy" Rush, Rodney Melton, H.P. Langston, Wayne Moore and Stuart Moore.

Honorary pallbearers are Cub Rush, Darrell Vest, Richard Melton and Jason Melton.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight.
