Edith was born in Quay County, New Mexico before it was a state, on February 16, 1911, to Garnett Andrew Moore and the former Sarah Margaret (Carmichael) Moore.
Edith was a homemaker who enjoyed making quilts and made over 125 in her lifetime. Edith loved to garden and work with flowers. Edith loved to travel and fished in the large lakes with her husband, James Taft Turner, before he passed away in 1984. Edith was very active in the Fun in the Sun Club here and enjoyed the dances. Edith attended many of the churches here and was very active with the former Rebekah Lodge No. 22.
Survivors include her sons, James Taft Turner Jr. of Frankfort, Kentucky, David Elbert Turner of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Carlsbad, New Mexico, Garnett Wayne Turner of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Weldon Dwight Turner of Canyon, Texas, daughters, Waunema Hyman and Juanita Turner Payne, both of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, two brothers, Neil John Moore and Howard Payton Moore, both of Melbourne, Arkansas. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Garnett and Sarah Moore, her husband, James, a brother, Garnett Andrew Moore, Jr., James Moore and John Moore, her sisters, Pearl, Vera Mae and Gladys Dixon and grandson, Keith Payne.
A graveside service will be conducted at Hollene Cemetery, Hollene, NM, 30 miles north of Clovis on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John McLean officiating.
