John T. Ankenbrand, 85, of Mt. Carmel, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at his residence.
He was born on Dec. 29, 1925 in Wabash County, the son of William H. and Lorene (Wahler) Ankenbrand.
He married Geneva R. Keepes on October 31, 1964 in Mt. Carmel, and she survives.
John was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked as a farmer and served in the United States Air Force and United States Army Air Corps, where he was a member of the occupational forces of Japan.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva R. Ankenbrand; son, David J. (Sandra) Baumgartner of Charleston, Ill.; two daughters, Jo Lynn Tofani of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Cheryl (Jason) Moser of Evansville, Ind.; five brothers, William G. "Bill" Ankenbrand of Browns, Michael "Mike" Ankenbrand of Browns, Lawrence? "Larry" Ankenbrand of Charleston, Ralph Ankenbrand of Ferguson, Mo., and Eugene "Gene" Ankenbrand of Champaign, Ill.; one sister, Ruth Mitchell of Dahlgren, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; step-sons, Ronald Joe Baumgartner and Tony Lee Baumgartner; daughter, Allison Ankenbrand; and half-sister, Wilma Schrodt.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, with burial at St. Sebastian Cemetery with full military rites.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Cunningham Funeral Home, Mt. Carmel, with rosary at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Sebastian Catholic Church or VNA TIP Hospice.
