Lloyd Dale Brown, 85, of Longview passed away Jan. 24, 2012, at the Hospice Care Center.

He was born Jan. 20, 1927, in San Joaquin, Calif., to John "Buford" and Edna Odessa (Willard) Brown. The Browns and their four sons lived in Longview from 1920 to 1931.

On July 31, 1949, Lloyd married Shirley Rondeau in Gervais, Ore. Lloyd returned to the local area from Gervais, Ore., with his family in 1956 and lived here the rest of his life.
Lloyd attended Whitman College in Walla Walla from 1948 to 1949, and received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Seattle Pacific University (then college) in 1950. He was a public assistance visitor (Welfare) for Washington State from 1950 to 1956, a parole and probation officer for Washington State from 1956 to 1965, and worked at Weyerhaeuser from 1965 to 1992, first on the boom, then as a grapple operator and retiring as a chip dozer operator.

Lloyd was a member and elder of the First United Presbyterian Church in Kelso from 1956 to 1973. He was a member and deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Longview from 1973 to 1982. Lloyd was a founding member, elder and treasurer of Three Rivers Bible Church in Kelso from 1983 to 2002. He was also a member of Hard Hats for Christ and a board member of Seven Wonders Creation Museum of Mount St. Helens in Toutle.

Lloyd was a devoted father, grandfather and loving husband. He worked very hard to care for his family. He was an active member of his church, helping build it and serving in leadership roles. He loved to travel in his RV and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Brown at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Harlene Brown of Kelso and Greg and Louise Brown of Longview; two daughters and sons-in-law, Roberta and Paul Stroud of Boise, Idaho, and Valerie and Joe Earls of Longview; six grandchildren, Victoria (Frank) Mitchem of Aumsville, Ore., Matthew (Joy) Brown of Vancouver, Nathaniel Stroud of Boise, Sarah (Nathan) Tennis of Pasco, Wash., Elijah Stroud of Boise and Emily Stroud of Nampa, Idaho; Dylan Tanner Earls of Longview, two great-grandchildren in Vancouver, Isla Mae Brown and Hudson Lewis Brown born one week before his great-grandpa died; a brother, Orville (Eve) Brown of Portland; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Olin Brown and Johnny Brown.

Arrangements are by Cascade Northwest Funeral Chapel at Green Hills Memorial Gardens & Crematory.
