Obituary from the 1835 Conference Minutes: "William Mavity was born in Franklin Co. Virginia in the year 1780. He was married in 1801 and in 1804 moved to Smith Co., W. Tenn. In 1808 he embraced religion and in 1809 he commenced preaching (local preacher). He removed to Kentucky and resided there for two years. The he moved to Harrison Co., Indiana and resided in that state nine years. He entered the traveling connection in the Illinois Conference in 1827. He labored with acceptance and usefulness until he died on the Wabash Circuit to which he had been appointed in the month of August 1834. He lived a pious life and died a happy death."


They had 9 children: Samuel, Joel, John, William, Page, Mary, Isaac, Malinda and Martha.
