Russell Chaffee, residing three and one-half miles north of the village of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), died Sunday morning at two-thirty o'clock, following an illness of but a few days. The cause of death being hardening of the arteries.
Mr. Chaffee who was 76 years of age, came to this community about twenty-five years ago, and settled on his farm, where he has since resided. In his passing he leaves to mourn, his aged wife, and one daughter, who resides at Ladysmith.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the home, the Rev. Sigglekow officiating, and then the body was taken to Wis. Rapids where burial took place.

Russell E. Chaffee was born in Argyle, Wis., Oct 12, 1854. He died Sunday morning, March 29, at his home north of Withee, of hardening of the arteries. Until the age of 21 he lived on a farm near Winona, Minn., then he went to Clear Lake, S.D., where he took a tree claim. Later he took a claim in North Dakota, where he proved up in 1901. He resided in Iowa for four years and came to Withee in 1907, when he bought a farm three miles north of that village. He was married in 1889 to Jessie L. Robinson at Pittsville. Two children were born to this union, both dying in infancy. Deceased is survived by his wife and one adopted daughter. The remains were taken to Wis. Rapids for burial. The Masonic lodge of Owen having charge of the burial services. Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr.a nd Mrs. Edmun Ducommun of Ladysmith, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Whinnery and family of Elk Mound, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Virgil McCloud, Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Robinson and Louis Hohn of Eau Claire, Glen Gorden of Wis. Rapids, R. Robinson of Milwaukee, Mrs. Ida Wright and son of Pittsville, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Robinson of Vesper.
