Served in Company I, 7th Michigan Cavalry during the Civil War. According to a Civil War Pension Index, Michael E. Weatherbee applied for an Invalid's Pension on March 4, 1892 in the state of Iowa. On the same record, it shows that his wife Favorette E. Weatherbee applied for a Widow's Pension on July 12, 1915. This would lead one to believe that he died sometime before July 12, 1915.

July 1, 1915, Page 7:
Michael Edward Weatherbee, veteran liveryman and a resident of this city for thirty six years, died Thursday morning his seventy seventh birthday, at his home, 516 Fourth Street, after an illness of less than a week. He was born in Alleghany county, New York in 1838 and was married at Woodstock, IL, in 1866 to Miss Favorette Elizabeth Bennett. He came to Council Bluffs from Avoca and has been engaged in the livery business throughout his residence here. He was a member of Council Bluffs Lodge No. 49, I.O.O.F., and of the Grand Army of the Republic.

He leaves besides his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Arah Scott of Creighton, NE., three sons, Frank and Arthur of this city, and Fred of San Francisco, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. C. V. Jordan of Dow City.

The body will be taken to Avoca for burial Saturday. Funeral services will be held at the residence here, the hour to be announced later.

The funeral of M. E. Weatherbee, the veteran livery man, who died Thursday morning will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at the residence, 516 Fourth Street. Rev. A.G.A. Buxton will have charge of the services and the body will be taken to Avoca where burial will take place.

July 4, 1915, Page 7:
The funeral of the late M. E. Weatherbee was held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning, the services being conducted by Rev. Dr. A.G.A. Buxton of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Robert Mullis sang two solos. There was a large attendance of his old time friends, and there were many floral tributes. The pallbearers were selected from among the Odd Fellows and the GAR. The remains were sent at 10:25 o'clock to Avoca for burial, and the Odd Fellows had charge of the services at the grave there.

Interesting item from "Nonpareil" dated October 10, 1896:
Mike Weatherbee disposed of his famous old stage coach yesterday to Buffalo Bill. The consideration, it was reported, was $120.
