Henry Smith was born 29 April 1809 in New York to Thomas and Eva (MNU) Smith. County of birth is unknown at this time, but the family moved to Ohio before 1819 from New York. The birth date differs from the one listed on Carl Myers Memorial, but this new date was found in a family Bible and has been added here. Thomas and Eve Smith were members of the Quaker faith in Warren County, Ohio and the family can be found in many of the Quaker records for that area.

Siblings in the Smith Family were Mariah (Lundy), Henry, William, Margaret (Hampton), John E., Rachel (Whitacre), Deborah (Klipperd),Thomas E., and Ruth Smith.

Henry Smith married his first wife Hannah Crosson on 24 April 1841 in Clinton County, Ohio. There were four known children born of their union, prior to Hannah's death in 1851. The children were: Margaret (Adair), Thomas Clinton, Mary E., and Edward O. Smith.

After Hannah's death Henry married his second wife who was the widow of Joseph Miller Daily Sr.. Henry Smith and Susan Minerva Gillis Daily were married in Warren County, Ohio on 29 July 1852, There was one daughter born of their union and her name was Ruth Ellen Smith who married Peter Confer.

Susan Minerva Gillis Daily had three known children by her first husband, Joseph Miller Daily Sr. Those children were Mary ann (Hopkins), Sarah Jane (Hoover), and Joseph Miller Daily Jr., who died at the age of eleven years.

Prior to the 1870 Census the family moved to Penn Township, Jay County, Indiana where they resided until their death.
Susan Smith died on and Henry Smith married Sarah A. Fordyce ca 1878.

On 4 November 1884, Henry Smith died and is buried in the Hillside Cemetery near his family. Edward and Mary Smith predeceased their father. The last member of the family to die was his son Thomas Clinton Smith who died in 1928 and is buried in an unmarked grave in the Hillside Cemetery.

The first Henry Smith Memorial was compiled by Carl Meyer, now deceased and this memorial is added by the great-great-great-granddaughter who is a Smith Family researcher.
