It became our painful duty to report on the death of H. C. Henderson, Esq. of this county, which occurred at his home in Berryessa Valley on Tuesday Evening, October 13th. He had only been ill for a few days and his death was entirely unexpected. About 2 weeks ago Mr. Henderson returned from Nevada, where he had been for six or seven weeks with his threshing outfit, and stopped in Napa overnight on his way home. While here he seemd to be in his usual health, though he complained a little of not feeling strong. He went home and was soon after confined to his bed, and rapidloy grew worse, until his physician, Dr. Dodge, at Monticello, seeing that he was in a critical condition, sent for Dr. Haun of Napa to consult with regard to the case. Dr. Haun started for Berryessa Tuesday night but met John Cage on the road who carried the information that Mr. Henderson had died a short time previous. The cause of his death was inflamation of the bowels and stomach, brought on by indigestion. While in Nevada, Mr. Henderson had eaten freely of some pine nuts to which he attributed his illness. Henry Clay Henderson was born in Indiana and was about 48 years of age at the time of his death. In 1850 [sic: 1853] he removed to California with his parents and for many years lived near Suisun in Solano County, where he married Miss Clayton, sister of David Clayton of this county. Mr. Henderson's father died several years ago and was buried at Rockville but his mother is still living. About eight years ago, Mr. Henderson bought a ranch in Berryessa Valley to which he moved with his family and they have resided there ever since. His wife and five children, four daughters and one son, survive him. His remains were interred at Rockville Thursday afternoon in the family lot where his father and other relatives are already buried. H.C. Henderson or "Hank" Henderson as he was familiarly called, was one of the best known citizens in this county and had hosts of friends. He had a bright, gentle disposition that endeared his acquaintances to him and he was a kind husband and indulgent father. His loss will be cincerely felt in this community in which he resided as he was one of its leading citizens. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Chosen Friends, and Knights of Honor."

Ebenezer's exact date of birth (from a family Bible kept by his daughter Cynthia Henderson McComber) was December 30, 1795. His exact date of death, from multiple news notices and an obit, was Jan. 19, 1879. He died in Modoc County at the home of his son Thomas, but was buried in Rockville (per the above obit of son Henry).

In looking through materials received from SCGS, I see I have notes about Christina Clayton Henderson Lincoln (Henry's wife, buried in the Henderson plot), which say that she was the sister of David O. Clayton, daughter of James R. Clayton, and granddaughter of Nancy Jones Clayton and Pettus O. Clayton, Sr.
