ARMY VETERAN- 1ST LT

Franklin Wade Perry, age 89, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community.

Family present visitation will begin at 5:30 PM on Friday, January 20, 2012 at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. A private graveside service will take place at Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls on Saturday, January 21, 2012.

Franklin Wade Perry was born on July 24, 1922 in Memphis, Tennessee, the only child to Noah Franklin and Mary (Wade) Perry. He was raised and received his education in Crockett Mills, TN, then attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Wade answered the call to protect freedom when WWII broke out and entered into the United States Army Air Corps; where he served as a bombardier on a B-17 flying fortress, stationed in Great Britain. After 18 missions he was honorably discharged in 1945 at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

Wade then went back to the University of Tennessee and earned his Engineering Degree. While working in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. He met and fell in love with Patricia “Pat” Lou Perry. They were married on November 25, 1949 in Minneapolis, MN. The couple lived in Denver for a few years before making their home in Dayton, Ohio. Wade spent 21 years working as a mechanical engineer with National Cash Register. He then spent many years working for the Federal Government. He retired in the mid 1980’s. They moved to South Dakota in 2004 to be close to their son, Burke and his family.

Wade had a passion for fishing, was a tremendous “Handyman”, and enjoyed collecting model trains, and reading Louis L’Amour western novels. Above all his greatest love was for his wife of 61 years, Pat. He grew roses just to for her; and loved working on jigsaw puzzles together. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.

Wade is preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Mary Perry; wife, Patricia “Pat” Perry on January 16, 2011; and one son, John Patrick Perry.
