Patrick was born in Ballivina, the son of Matthew Barrett and Susanne Kelty. He arrived in the US in on June 29th 1864 and settled in Newark, NJ with his father Matthew, sister Sabina and Mary, and brothers John and Michael. He eventually moved to Mahonney City, Pennsylvania and became a coal miner. He married Mary Haley and they had seven children. Mary, Anna, Susan, Matthew, Lawrence, John and Michael. They moved to Brooklyn in 1890 where Patrick passed away in 1891.
