Peter Dauge (D'Auge) was one of eleven children of Pierre (Peter) and Angelica [Gregory] D'Auge. The first of the D'Auge family in America was his grandfather, Jacques D'Auge who came from the Providence of Berry in France to Charleston, SC.

Peter was a legislature and in the Militia and later a Continental Line officer during the Revolutionary War. In 1777 his unit, the Tenth North Carolina Regiment joined with Washington and fought throughout the Revolution.

Peter first married Elizabeth Lamb, d/o Thomas and Sarah [Beckwith] Lamb of Pasquotank. The couple had 5 children, Isaac, Willoughby, Amelia, Sophia & Margaret.

He second married Margaret Sawyer Lamb, widow of Abner Lamb, they had no children.

Dauge had a 2057 acre plantation in Camden County on which he was buried in the family cemetery.
