Vicki Laverne (Boman) Alt, 83, passed away January 10, 2012 due to a lengthy pulmonary illness.
Trapped in the dustbowl conditions of Oklahoma in 1932, with few work opportunities, the Boman family set out for California to work in the crop lands in and around the Castro Valley area. Without the funds for vehicle travel, they made the 1400 mile trip to California with a pair of mules pulling a wagon. Vicki, who was only four years old at the time, walked portions of the journey.
Later the family settled in Modesto, California where Vicki graduated from Modesto High School and later married and had children.
Her work career, after a divorce, took her to the Lake Tahoe region where she worked and enjoyed the company of her nearby relatives. From there, she ventured to Santa Barbara, California in 1966 to be near her children.
She graduated from Santa Barbara Business College and then worked for the University of California, Santa Barbara as a Medical Secretary. She worked there until 1975 when she met Donald Alt, a computer software engineer from Lompoc, CA.
On July 26, 1976 she married Donald and they lived in Lompoc, CA., Vandenberg Village, CA., and then Foxenwood Estates, Orcutt, CA. in 1988 she lived with Donald until her passing.
Vicki was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #534, Orcutt, CA. and with her husband was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, all of Santa Maria, CA. She loved to travel, listen to Elvis Presley, gospel and inspirational songs.
She traveled with husband Donald to Mexico and San Diego County timeshares, Western USA, Wisconsin (Donald's origin state) Hawaii and countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, including Egypt where she had the memorable experience of riding a camel.
Mrs. Alt is survived by her husband, Donald Alt, daughter, Kathy Baldwin, son, Jeffrey Baldwin, and daughter-in-law Sam Baldwin, sister, Betty Pippen, six grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Harrison Boman and Hazel Pearl Griffin, daughter, Teresa Baldwin, son, Tyler Pearson, sisters, Marie Smith and Pearl Potter, brother, Carl Boman.
