Bernice Allen McCarter, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Sancturay Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born March 30, 1923 in Lee ounty to Arnold Gaston and Alma Creely Allen. She and her husband, James Mitchell McCarter, were founding members of Good News Church on West Jackson Street in Tupelo. For many years they served the Lord in a ministry to Lee County Jail inmates, which she continued after her husband's death in 1986. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great0grandmother, she loved her family and prayed for them daily. She was completely committed to her family and her failth in God and leaves a legacy of love and service to her family.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Good News Church with the Rev. Terry Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Gardens. Holland Funeral Directords, Tupelo Chapel, is in charge of teh arrangements.
Survivors include two daugheres, Freda Farmer (Steve) of Tupelo and Martha Sallis (Jack) of Spartanburg, S.C.; foru grandchildren, Dr. Stephen Farmer (Susan) of Tupelo, Michelle Caldwell (Tim) of Spanish Foret, ALa., Patti Crocker (Bobby) of Gaffney, S.C., and Jack Sallis (Lori) of Spartanburg, S.C.; 11 great-granchdildren, a niece, Brenda White (Roger) of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James Mithcell McCarter; her parents, and a brother Jimmie Allen.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
