CONOVER -- Joseph McDaniel Yount, 84, of 2752 R & J Street, died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.
Born July 10, 1917 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Robert Glenn and Edna Shook Yount.
He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Claremont and formerly attended Philadelphia United Methodist Church in Fort Mill, SC. He was a retired employee of Barnhill Construction Company, was a US Army Veteran of World War II, and was awarded a Bronze Star. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ralph G. Yount and Hugh C. Yount; 2 sisters, Frances Y. Aderholt and Isobel Y. Setzer.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Stoudemire Yount of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel David and Jenni Yount of Denver, CO; two grandchildren, Seth Wesley Yount of Denver, CO and Cloe Rubinking of Denver, CO; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Paige and Joann Yount of Conover; and sisters, Glenna Mae Estes of Hickory and Sara Y. Olup of Asheville, NC.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Cemetery with military rites provided by the American Legion Post #16. The Rev. Paul Harmon will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Setzer, Lonnie Setzer, David Kiziah, Robert Bollinger, Michael Bollinger and Seth Yount.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 579, Claremont, NC 28610 or to Philadelphia United Methodist Church, 1691 Highway 160 West, Ft. Mill, SC 29708.
