Born Streeter, ND, Dec 14, 1912 to John and Anna Neel Davis. One brother, Leslie W. Davis, and sister, Velma Davis Christensen, both deceased. John and Anna with Roland moved to Mexico, NY in 1919. He attended Mexico High School where he graduated in 1929 and subsequently graduated in 1931 from Central City Business School, Syracuse, NY.

In 1931, he joined his brother in Casper, WY where he married Mavis G. James Dec 24, 1935. He joined the Wyoming National Guard in 1933 and served during World War II for its duration, mostly in Okinawa as a Captain with the 720th Amphibious Tractor Btn. He was discharged from active duty Jan 1946 and retired from the National Guard in 1953 with the rank of Major.

R.J. returned to Casper following the war to manage Liquidation Service Co., a General Insurance company, after attending insurance school in Glen Falls, NY. He kept very active in Casper with civic affairs, serving as Commander of the VFW and board, president of Casper Insurers, president and director of the Natrona County Red Cross, and member of the Casper Chamber of Commerce. He joined the Casper Rotary Club in 1946 and served as its secretary for five years.

In Feb 1957 he moved his family to Utah to take over part ownership and management of Allied War Surplus, later known as Allied Development Co.

In Murray, R.J. continued to be active in the community, as a charter member of the Murray Rotary Club serving as its first secretary and later as president in 1966-67, then returned to the secretary post and remained in this capacity for 35 years. He also served on the board of the Murray Chamber of Commerce and as its president for two years. He was the recipient of the Community Service Award, 1967. In 1974, he led a Rotary Group Study Exchange team to England. In 1976, was presented with the Paul Harris Fellowship by the Murray Rotary Club.

R.J. established the Explorer Scout Troop for the Midvale Methodist Church and served as their leader for three years. His great passions and pastimes included spending time with family and friends at his cabin in Grover, UT; hunting and horseback riding; boating on Lake Powell; Rotary Safaris; traveling; building and remodeling; golfing; reading; and simply enjoying time with his children, grand, great-grandchildren and good friends.

Survived by his wife, who shared 67 adventurous years with him; children, Vicki Lynne Davis, R. Jesse Davis; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and Christensen nephews and nieces.

Services, Mon. July 7, Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Pky (10600 S). Visitation 10:30-11:45 a.m., memorial 12 noon.
