William J. Hatcher Services Tomorrow
Heart Ailment Fatal to Veteran Galena Peace Officer, 72 -- Was Constable at Time of Death.

Galena, Kan., Jan. 18. -- Funeral services for William J. Hatcher, 72 years old, veteran peace officer in Galena, who died last night at his home, 1100 Bellevue avenue, will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church, with the Rev. John S. Jones, pastor, in charge. Other arrangements are incomplete. The Boice Undertaking Company is in charge.
Mr. Hatcher had been ill several weeks with a heart ailment. He received medical treatment in the Columbus City hospital for a time, after which he was removed to the home of a daughter, but recently had returned to his home here.
At the time of his death, Mr. Hatcher was constable and juvenile officer in Galena. He also had served a number of years on the city police force, both in the office of the chief of police and as night patrolman, and was deputy constable prior to being elected to that office. He had resided in Galena the last 15 years. Before coming to Galena, Mr. Hatcher had lived at Granby for a time. He was born in Centerville.
Surviving are five daughters, Miss May Hatcher of Chicago, Mrs. Wilma Powell of Kansas City, Mrs. Dora Edstrom of Galena, Mrs. Ruth Bradley of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Lula Moffett of Galena route 2; a step-daughter, Mrs. Retha Craig of Joplin; a step-son, Otis Killian of Lawton, Kan.; five brothers, Frank Hatcher of Detroit, Mich., Walter, Ben and Daugherty Hatcher of Carthage, and Era Hatcher of Carterville; and three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Campbell of Carthage and Mrs. Ruth Harmon of Pasadena, Calif., and another sister residing in Sand Springs, Okla.
