Lula was born September 11, 1914 in Wagoner, Oklahoma, daughter of the late William Hatcher and Gertrude Martin Hatcher.
She graduated from high school, and then graduated from Joplin Junior College with a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1952. She worked for Doctors McPike, Wieman, and Schoeberl for several years, and worked at Freeman and St. John's for over 20 years. She was instrumental in establishing a school for acquiring an L.P.N. License at Franklin Tech, and having a Bill passed that required L.P.N.'s to have a license with the State of Missouri. She served on the Missouri State Board of L.P.N.'s for nine years. In 1998 she was recognized for 50 years of service to the Missouri Association of LPN's. She was a member of American Business Women's Association where she received the Woman of the Year twice, in the late 1970's and 2001.
In addition to her professional career, Lula was a very faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church for over 46 years.
She married Eugene D. Moffet on June 12, 1931 in Miami, OK, he preceded her in death on February 15, 1995. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Eugene Moffet, Jr; two daughters, Doris Stripling and Carolyn Clayton all of Joplin; foster son, William Edstrom of Presque Isle, WI; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, four foster grandchildren and four foster great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Steven Clayton, Jana Esposito, Beverly Gilstrap, Charlie Gilstrap, Brenda Stripling, and Danny Moffet serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
