Medical Pioneer. He was a pioneer in the field of plastic surgery, famed mainly for his role as a consultant in plastic surgery for the Royal Air Force during World War II, a role that involved many operations on dozens of British fighter pilots. Based at East Grinstead's Queen Victoria Hospital, the pilots christened themselves 'The Guinea Pig Club.' He was the second of four children of John McIndoe and Mabel Hill (a well-known New Zealand Artist). His brother, John Leslie McIndoe, was also an artist and a POW in WW2.
