Rose Craft, at 96 years of age and wisdom, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a short illness, , and went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 12, 2012 while attended by family and friends.
Rose was born Rozella Faye Aiken to Charles Spurgeon Aiken and Cordelia Ashlock Aiken on December 24, 1915 in Tioga, Texas. She graduated from High School in Whitesboro, Texas in 1934, and spent the next few years traveling America as an advertising salesperson. She eventually followed her older sister, Dimple Godwin, to Midland in 1941, where she joined First Baptist Church, and married Cecil H. Craft.
As a member of First Baptist Church for 71 years, Rose not only taught children in the preschool departments, but was very active in her "Samuel" Sunday School class and community, with a special interest in ministry to the deaf. After becoming certified as a deaf interpreter, she not only was called upon to interpret Sunday Church Services to the deaf, she also was employed for several years by the Midland Independent School District as a special needs deaf interpreter for high school students.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Charles S. and Cordelia Aiken, her brothers, Charles Aiken, J.C. Aiken, Hubert Aiken, and her sister, Dimple Godwin.
She is survived by her sisters Juanita Kerley of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Kathleen Ranne of Ruidosa, N.M, and Billie Beth Dade of Artesia, N.M. ; her three children, Celia Craft Bayless of Pine Bluff, AR., Kenneth L. Craft of El Paso, TX, and Bill C. Craft of Conroe, TX; her seven grandchildren, Celeste McDaniel of Jonesboro, AR, Shawna Mertel of Lee's Summit, MO, Sol Waters of Chiang Mai, Thialand, Craig C. Craft, W. Conrad Craft, Christopher Craft and Carolyn J. Craft, all of Conroe, TX., seven great-grandchildren including Alec and Austen McDaniel, Jordan, Celeste and Michael Mertel, Graysen Craft, and Nicole Craft, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at the viewing on Friday evening, January 13, from 6-9pm at the Ellis Funeral Home at 801 Andrews Hwy, Midland, TX. Funeral services for Rose Craft are scheduled for Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11:00 am, at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with David Johnson officiating and with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
