Jay Harvey Dies After Long Illness

Jay Harvey passed away last Sunday evening following an illness of several months. Mr. Harvey was taken ill several months ago and for a time, with the best of medical care, was apparently on the road to recovery. But not so long ago it became evident that the end was only a matter of a few months. He was up and down town until a couple of months ago when he was confined to his home and later removed to the St. Croixdale hospital where he received care that was the best that could be provided until the end.

The funeral is being held today from the home and the Congregational church. The remains were placed beside those of his wife in Pine Glen cemetery. The many friends and neighbors attending the funeral and the large display of flowers were evidence of the high respect and esteem in which he was held by those who knew him. Rev. E. W. Savage had charge of the service.

Jay Converse Harvey was born in Clifton township on January 10, 1863. On October 14, 1886, he was united in marriage to Miss Mabel M. McGray. To this union two sons were born. Howard Mac Harvey of Weyburn, Sask, Canada and Otis William Harvey of St. Paul. His wife preceded him in death on April 22, 1942.

With the exception of the period from 1906 to 1912, Mr. Harvey spent his entire life in Prescott. During the past years he had been collector on the bridge where he became well known to a great many who had ocasion [sic] to cross the river. One of his hobbies was his garden and he often brought samples of his home grown vegetables down town and they were always admired by all who saw them.

A short time ago Mr. Harvey was awarded a life membership in the Masonic Order, having completed a fifty year membership in that lodge.
