Nicholas Slipko, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY died Sunday February 17, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. Born in Philipsburg, PA. on August 23, 1928 he was the son of the late George and Mary (Bartko) Slipko Sr. and attended schools there. He entered the US Army on Nov. 20, 1950 being a cook and received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal and was honorably discharged on October 1, 1956. He came to Niagara Falls NY. after his discharge from the Army and went to work at Slipko Bros. Market on Main St. in the meat department for 30 years and then worked at Super Duper and Jubilee in the City Market. Nick was an avid golfer winning several trophies. He enjoyed horse racing , playing the lottery and took pride in his home-grown tomatoes. Nick was a big fan of Polka music and the Lawrence Welk Show. He especially enjoyed celebrating birthdays, holidays and special occasions with Mary, Laurene, Anne, Janet, Teddy, Jody and T.J. Nick was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Niagara Falls and a former member of the VFW Post #54.

He is survived by a sister Mary (late Edward) Czerniak and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers George Slipko Sr., Alexander Slipko, Theodore Slipko Sr., Joseph Slipko Sr. and a sister Veronica Mc Kedy.

Friends may call Wednesday February 20th. from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Zajac Funeral Home Inc. 319 24th. St. cor. Welch Ave. Niagara Falls, NY. where Panahyda will take place at 7 PM. Funeral services Thursday February 21 at 9;30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10;00 AM from St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church 2715 Ferry Ave. with Rev. D.G. Laptuta, C.Ss.R. and cousin Rev. Gerald Bartko O.S.F.S. officiating. Burial following with Military Honors in Riverdale Cemetery Lewiston, NY.
