Robert Lloyd Williams, 86, died Monday, October 3, 2005 in Tempe.

He was born in Tempe on August 14, 1919, the youngest of seven children, to Josiah and Alice Kathryn (Holmsley) Williams.

He graduated from Tempe High School and attended Arizona Teachers College (now Arizona State University) studying architectural drawing and engineering.

Lloyd married Genevieve Adams, his soul mate, on September 25, 1940.

He worked briefly for a mining company in Globe, AZ and then as a draftsmen. He then worked as a clerk for the Salt River Power Co. before being drafted into the service in World War II. After a medical discharge, Lloyd began what was to be a long and successful career as a building contractor. He formed "Williams & Wells" which eventually became "Williams & Sons" and built homes, apartments, churches and office complexes.

He served for several years on the Tempe Zoning Board and oversaw the early development of Tempe.

Lloyd was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served very faithfully for many years. He and Genevieve were sealed for time and all eternity in 1957.

He is pre-deceased by one son Randy Gail and his beloved wife Genevieve who died June 28, 2005.

He is survived by two sons, Ted and Robert Lloyd of Tempe; a daughter, Janny Cardwell of Tempe; and a daughter, Barbara Horrocks of Woodland Hills, UT. He had 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Lloyd was cherished by his family for his wisdom and guidance throughout our lives. He will be greatly missed.

Family and friends may visit Friday from 6-8 p.m., at Carr Tenney Mortuary, 2621 S. Rural Rd., Tempe, AZ. Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m., at the LDS 1st Ward, 1221 W. Howe St., Tempe. Burial will follow in E. Resthaven Cemetery.
