East Valley Tribune:

Genevieve 'Adams' Williams was born the fifth child of May Elvina "Thompson' Adams and David T. Adams, in the community of Central, AZ in the Gila Valley on June 3, 1921.

When she was 1 1/2 years old she was stricken with Spinal Meningitis, which was usually a death sentence. Because of dedicated parents and neighbors who took turns sitting with Gen and rubbing her back, she recovered and from then on was known as the "Miracle Baby".

Gen's father worked as a foreman in a Miami mine and was killed leaving 5 children without a father.

The family moved to Mesa where her mother worked hard to support her little family. Gen attended grade school at Alma School, then graduated from Mesa Union High School and then to the Teacher's College in Tempe.

It was almost love at first sight when she met Lloyd Williams. He proposed to her and they were married September 25, 1940 in the front yard of her home on Alma School Road. They lived in the Globe-Miami area for 2 years and then moved to Tempe where they resided for the next 63 years.

There were 5 children born to them. Barbara Horrocks, living in Woodland Hills, UT, Ted, Robert Lloyd and Janny Cardwell, who live in Tempe and Randy Gail who is deceased. They have 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Gen was active and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held many positions of responsibility and fulfilled each with joy and faith. She was also vice president of her husband's construction company for 40 years, assisting him as be built homes, apartments, churches and office complexes.

Gen was skilled in the art of sewing and embroidery. She had several collections that were important to her. But the most important things in her life were her husband, children and church.

She spent her life serving others with happiness and humility. She will be greatly missed. Memories of her smile, her tremendous love for others, her cooking and her wonderful sense of humor will remain forever in our hearts and minds.

Family and friends may visit Friday from 6-8 PM at Carr Tenney Mortuary, 2621 S. Rural Rd., Tempe, AZ. Services will be held Saturday at 10 AM at the LDS 1st Ward on W. Howe St., Tempe, AZ. Burial will follow in E. Resthaven Cemetery. Carr Tenney Mortuary, Tempe, is handling the arrangements.
