Rev. V.L. Bobbs, a former resident of Albuquerque, passed away January 19, 2004. Rev Vurne L. Bobbs was born to Emanuel and Mattie Watkins-Bobbs on March 22, 1924 In Atlanta Louisiana. Rev. Bobbs had been a minister for 46 years, He also licensed and ordained 24 ministers during his lifetime. He pastored several churches in Kansas, Texas, and finally in Albuquerque,where he pastored Mt. Calvary Baptist church in the early 1980's and then organizing True Vine Baptist Church, where he remained for 13 years. Rev. Bobbs was also the First Vice President of the NAACP under the Alice Faye Hoppes Administration, among many other Committees and Associations. He is survived by his children, Lilly Robinson and husband, Rev. Calvin Robinson of Garden City, KS, Patricia Watts of San Diego, CA, Rev. Laura Lewis of Albuquerque, Linda Hawkins of Las Vegas, NV, Vurne Bobbs, Jr. and wife, Cindy of Hawthorne, CA, John Bobbs of Inglewood, CA and James Bobbs of Bernalillo, NM; five brothers and sisters, all of Louisiana; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, Rev. Bobbs was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy Newman-Bobbs; a sister Vera Mae Proschee, brother Emanuel Bobbs Jr., daughter, Margaret Bradshaw; granddaughter, Tashi Glenn, great-grandson, Izaiah Sanchez.
