He was born on April 2, 1933, in Warren, the son of Robert and Hulda Goswick Overly.
John was a member of Southington Baptist Church and had worked as a dairy farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Aldrich Overly; two sons, Mike of Champion and Larry of Southington; three daughters, Linda Murdoch of Champion, Judy Cadle of Newton Falls and Connie Crosten of Niles; a brother, Ray of Bristolville; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Southington Christian Church. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Burial will be in Graham Cemetery in Southington.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland.
