BURGOON — Ray Overly, 93, peacefully entered into heaven Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, at Countryside Manor in Fremont. Ray resided most of his life in Bristol and recently had moved to Burgoon, Ohio.

He was born Sept. 16, 1928, in Warren, to Russell and Hulda Goswick Overly. He graduated from Chalker High School in Southington.

Ray joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he served as a medic. Following an honorable discharge, he pursued a career as a steelworker, eventually retiring after 33 years with Copperweld Steel of Warren.

On Oct. 8, 1955, he married Helen Gahagan in Northfield and she survives.

In his spare time, Ray enjoyed woodworking and was an avid collector of toy tractors, which was a passion he shared with his sons, grandsons and great-grandsons. He was best known for graciously giving away toys that brought joy and memories to many. Ray was also a long-standing and active member of the Church of the Brethren in Bristol.

Left to cherish memories of him are his wife, Helen Overly of Burgoon; children, Mark (Emily) of Punxsutawney, Pa., Brian (Kimberly) of Dayton, Pa., Todd (Debra) of Burgoon and Daniel (Diane) of Punxsutawney, Pa.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Preston, James, Paul, John and Gene Overly.

A celebration of life service and burial will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bristolville Church of the Brethren, 6410 Thompson Clark Road, Bristolville, OH 44402, or a random act of kindness may be done in his honor.

Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Crematory of Fremont has had the honor of assisting the Overly family during this difficult time.
