Waylon D. Powell Of Cricket Hill Dies; Rites Today

Mathews, Jan. 8 - Waylon D. Powell, 61, died suddenly at his home at Cricket Hill Saturday night.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Fanny B. Powell; two daughters, Mrs. Guy Hudgins and Miss Hazel Powell, both of Jersey City, N.J.; one son, Charles Powell of Mathews County; a sister, Mrs. G. S. Atwood of Norfolk and a brother O. P. Powell of Norfolk.

Mr. Paul was a member of Mathews Baptist Church and a leader in civic affairs. He was a member of the Oriental Lodge, No. 20, A.F. and A.M. of Mathews; a member of Chapel Lodge No. 235, I.O.O.F., and a member of the Mathews council No. 82, Junior Order of United American Mechanics.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at Mathews Baptist church, with the Rev. R. G. Kendrick, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. W. J. Simmons of Appomattox, former pastor, assisting.

Interment will be in the family plot in the Mathews Baptist cemetery.
