Agnes was the oldest child of seven born to Benjamin Sylvester Wray and Elizabeth Anna Kritz Wray. She was born in Rock Grove Township, which no longer exists, but was considered a part of Nora Springs, Iowa.

Her mother died when she was about 15 years old and she was in charge of the household for some years. In 1910, she still had 5 younger siblings to care for. Her father was a house painter. Her education stopped at 8th grade and it is noted she attended a 'grade B grammar school.'
In 1915, the state census has her occupation as hired girl,in Nora Springs,Iowa, and her religion Methodist, though she was baptised 2 Aug. 1894 at Mason City, Iowa as Catholic. Her total earnings for 1914 were shown to be $200.
In 1920 she was shown to be a boarder at the Y.W.C.A. in Mason City, Iowa and employed as a stenographer for an auto company. In 1925, the state census lists her as 'engaged in transportation trade.'
By 1930, she has gone to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was a servant in the household of Delmer Porter and his family, boarding with them.
Agnes did not marry. She died in San Francisco and her death certificate states she had worked for 30 years in Federal Civil Service. Her place of death was 7555 Geary Blvd. Informant of her death was Donald Wray, Pacifica, California. Cause of death was Cardiac decompensation due to Aortic Stenosis after an illness of about three weeks.
