In 1861, he enlisted in Company G, 18th Ohio Infantry for a term of three months. He reenlisted on 31 July 1862 in Company B, 91st Ohio Infantry, being discharged 25 June 1865. He married Transylvania Clegg in 1869 and they had 3 children while in Illinois and 9 more while in Texas. From 1877 to 1920, they are known to have lived in Texas (in and around Brown & Eastland Counties). He received an Invalid Pension # 514.284.
