The funeral for Ada Brown, 86, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Fremont. She died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. Ada Mae was born Feb. 21, 1920, on the farm northeast of Winslow near Hooper to Theodore and Floyd (Luedke) Fauss. She attended school in Hooper until fifth grade, when her family moved to Nickerson in 1929. She graduated from Nickerson High School in 1937. She married Dennis Christen Knudsen on July 26, 1942, in Papillion. They farmed near Nickerson for 35 years, retiring in 1982 and moving to Fremont. She had been the custodian of Nickerson Public School for eight years. Her husband, Dennis, died April 4, 1982. She married Donald Duane Brown on May 12, 1990, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont. They made their home in Fremont. She had been a member of the Nickerson United Methodist Church for 40 years, a member of its women's group and was a Sunday school teacher. She became a member of Fremont's Calvary United Methodist Church in 1982 and its Calvary United Methodist Women. She also was a member of Friendship Chapter 122 Order of Eastern Star of Hooper and a life member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 18 of Hooper. Survivors include: her husband, Donald D. Brown; a daughter, Diann (and husband, Roger) Tompkin of Sun Prairie, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Knudsen of Waterloo, Iowa; five grandchildren, Mark (and wife, Lisa) Tompkin, Michelle (and husband, Peter) Hanson, Chris (and wife, Gina) Knudsen, Deborah (and husband, Chris) Krusemark and Jeff Knudsen; five great-grandchildren, Luke and Katelyn Knudsen, Taylor and Gavin Tompkin and Jacob Hanson; four stepchildren, Barbara (and husband, Lloyd) Chilton of Good Year, Ariz., Donald (and wife, Cindy) Brown of Hastings, Terry Brown of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Katherine (and husband, Paul) Messier of Hooper; stepdaughter-in-law, Elaine Brown of Red Bank, Tenn.; 14 stepgrandchildren and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Roger Knudsen, and stepchildren, Patricia Brown and James E. Brown. The Rev. Susan Sanders will officiate Friday's service. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Thursday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with family present beginning at 6:30 p.m. A public Eastern Star service will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. It will be conducted by Friendship Chapter 122 of Hooper. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to Calvary United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
