Charles White Hornsby Sr., 73, retired president of Hornsby Oil Co., died May 16, 1990, in his home.
Mr. Hornsby, a native of Seaford, was a summer resident of Virginia Beach. He was the co-founder of Hornsby Tire Co. He was a former member of the Peninsula Airport Commission and served on the board of directors of Central Fidelity Bank for 26 years. He was a member of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church, Newport News Rotary Club and James River Country Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Boykin Hornsby; a daughter, Carol H. Smith of Okinawa; two sons, C.W. Hornsby Jr. of Houston and Douglas L. Hornsby of Newport News; a sister, Marian H. Bowditch of Yorktown; two brothers, Robert S. Hornsby of Williamsburg and J.W. Hornsby Jr. of Newport News; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Peninsula Funeral Home by the Rev. William A. Wright Jr. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Peninsula Fine Arts Center or to the Waterman's Museum, York-town. Edition: FINAL
