Carrie Franken, 88, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, May 8, at Sioux Center Community Nursing Home.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. John Witvliet officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Franken was born May 16, 1912, in rural Sioux Center, the daughter of Henry C. and Allie (Vander Ploeg) Van Roekel. She attended Hope Christian Country School for eight years.
During the 1940s, she lived and worked in California for seven years. She returned to Sioux Center, where she cleaned houses and offices for many years.
She married Gerrit A. Franken on November 28, 1951, in Sioux Center. He died April 29, 1984, in Sioux Center.
She entered Franken Manor in Sioux Center in December 1999 and transferred to Sioux Center Community Nursing Home in September 2000.
She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and Ruth Circle. She enjoyed doing handwork.
Survivors include two brothers Neal Van Roekel and Henry Van Roekel, both of Sioux Center; and four sisters, Tena Sneller, Cynthia Van Regenmorter, Harriet Meendering and Ellen Van Roekel, all of Sioux Center.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Garret, Tony and John Van Roekel; and two sisters, Fannie Van Roekel (in 1916) and Fannie Sneller.
