CAMPBELL, Clayton, 81, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012. A native of Wallins Creek, Ky., he had been a Hampton resident since 1971. After serving his country for three years in the U.S. Marines in the late 1940s, he changed branches of service and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He fought in the Korean Conflict. During his military career, he was awarded several citations including the WWII Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, and several Good Conduct citations. After retiring from the military, he worked for the Newport News Shipyard as a security guard for 20 years and retired in 1993. Preceding him in rest is his wife, Wilma Irene Rose Campbell. Surviving members of his family include his son, Eddie E. Campbell and wife, Lisa M.; grandchildren, Andrew, Philip and Kyla Campbell; stepgrandchildren, Jeremiah, Nicholas and Brandon Williams; great-grandson, Jeremiah "JR" Williams Jr.; brother, Bobby Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 6 to 9 p.m. A celebration of Clayton's life will be held Friday, January 13, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to The Veterans of Foreign Wars or to the American Cancer Society .
