Edward Garnett McDaniel
1873 - 1913

Edward Garnett McDaniel was born June 12, 1873, in Colorado Territory, a son of James Henry and Josephine W. Forman McDaniel. On August 14, 1895, he married Ethel Maude Parker in Canon City, Colorado. They were later divorced. Edward* had been a patient for one year when he passed from this life at Utah State Hospital in Provo, Utah, due to general paresis on September 8, 1913, at age 40.
Death Certificate & Commitment Papers Info: Edward was believed to be about 39 years old when he passed from this life at Utah State Hospital. His death certificate states he was a former resident of Colorado, divorced, parents unknown, and was a patient about one year at the time he died.
Utah State Hospital Forgotten Patients Project: Edward was among 600+ patients of the Utah Territorial Insane Asylum (now known as Utah State Hospital) between 1885 and 1960, buried in the Provo City Cemetery, most in unmarked graves, given a pauper's burial, alone without recognition or ceremony. The Utah State Hospital Forgotten Patients Cemetery Project requested donations to create a monument with individual plaques to honor each of these precious spirits. Thankfully, it was completed and dedicated to them October 10, 2018, in Provo City Cemetery. Edward's grave is marked and he has no plaque yet, but deserves to be honored the same.
