He received his first interstate Commerce Certificate in 1935 under the original Motor Carrier Act. His company H J Jeffries Truck Line was incorporated in 1952 and continued to expand into a major truck line with operations in 48 states, western Canada and Alaska until it was sold in December 1983.
During his life Mr Jeffries was a supporter of the youth of the community. He gave generously to many Little League baseball, football, soccer programs and to the YMCA and to the Boy Scouts of America. He sponsored basketball, softball, bowling teams and an American Legion baseball team and for a time, a semi-pro baseball team.
Mr Jeffries was a member of the Crown Heights Christian Church, The Siloam Lodge, Guthrie Consistory, India Temple Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters, The Petroleum Club, The Sportsman's Club, and The Men's Dinner Club.
During his life, he was part of several civic and social organizatons and a member of many trucking industry associations. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jeff, as he was known by many, leaves family, friends and many accomplishments, but his kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts and minds of all who have known him.
Memorials may be made to the Children's Burn Center, Galveston TX, in care of The India Temple, 3601 NW 36, Oklahoma City 73112. Services will be 2 pm Monday, Jan 28, Hahn-Cook, Street & Draper Funeral Chapel with entombment in Rose Hill Mausoleum.
