REV. JOHN BURKHOLDER, OF EPHRATA

The Rev. John W. Burkholder, 95, of Fairmount Homes, Ephrata, formerly of Akron Road, Ephrata, and Blue Ball, died Saturday at home after a lengthy illness.

He was an ordained minister in the Weaverland district of the Lancaster Conference of the Mennonite Church since 1940, preaching until his 90th birthday.

A curator of the used book department of Provident Bookstore, Lancaster, for 20 years, Burkholder specialized in theological and historical books. He was also a retired farmer.

The Rev. Burkholder was a member of the Martindale Mennonite Church.

Born in East Earl, he was the son of the late John W. and Susana Wenger Burkholder.
His wife, Edith Sensenig Burkholder, died in 1980.

Surviving are four sons, the Rev. Marlin S. husband of Katie Stoltzfus Burkholder of Harleysville, John D. husband of Kathleen Martin Burkholder of Terre Hill, Roy S. husband of Heleh Heistand Burkholder, and the Rev. Samuel S., husband of Naomi Sauder Burkholder, both of Lititz; three daughters, Dorothy wife of Bishop Earl M. Sensenig of Ephrata, Mae wife of Thomas Swan of Millersville, and Lois wife of Earl Hostetter of Lititz; 24 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
