David Pressly, son of John Pressly and the former Miss Isabelle Fleming, was born around 1756 and emigrated to the Long Cane area of Abbeville, South Carolina through Charleston in the late 1760's.

David married around 1787, Jane Patterson, daughter of Samuel and Mary Patterson of Ninty-Six, South Carolina. The Patterson's had emigrated to America on the ship, The Freemason; which departed from Newry, Ireland on 27 Oct 1772 and arrived in Charleston on 22 Dec 1772.

David and Jane Pressly had six children:
Samuel Patterson Pressly M.D. (1792 – 1837)
Rev. John Taylor Pressly (1795 – 1870)
Mary [Pressly] Lowry (1797 – 1875)
George William Pressly M.D. (1803 – 1870)
James Patterson Pressly (1808 – 1877)
William Patterson Pressly (1811 – 1905)

David Pressly died the 21st of September 1818 at his home in Troy. He is buried in Cedar Springs A.R.P. Churchyard.
