He was born in Kingsport where he resided most of his life. Don graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1964 and became a teacher/coach in Church Hill and in North Carolina.
In 1980 he returned to Kingsport and started a career in real estate. In 1989 he became owner/broker of Don Slaughter Realtors which he was currently operating.
His parents, Paul and Gladys Slaughter; one niece; and three nephews preceded him in death.
As a proud graduate and athlete at Dobyns-Bennett High School, he was very passionate about the school's program; he and his three sons were captains of their football teams. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dobyns-Bennett Alumni Field House through the Dobyns-Bennett Educational Foundation, c/o Aldebaran Financial Inc., P.O. Box 6398, Kingsport, TN 37663.
