08/20/1850 - Professor, University of Virginia, Albemarle Co., VA (lived with wife, Elizabeth, and nine children - indexed in the 1850 U.S. Census as "Gesner Harrison")

08/22/1860 - Teacher, St. Annes Parish, Albemarle Co., VA (lived with wife, Eliza, and five children - indexed in the 1860 U.S. Census as Gessner Harrison)

Late 1861 - "One of Harrison's sons returned home from the war to recover from a severe case of camp fever. The illness persisted for several months, and Harrison insisted on nursing his son himself. Years of overwork had worn down Harrison's health, and while his son slowly recovered, Harrison himself contracted the disease.

04/07/1862 - Died of camp fever in Nelson Co., VA (buried: University of Virginia Cemetery and Columbarium)

Inscription

He was appointed Professor of Ancient Languages in the University of Virginia in 1828 at the age of twenty-one and remained there until 1859 when he resigned his place.
