Born in El Paso, Texas, he was the son of the late George and Marzella LeFlore.
He was drafted and served for the US Army where he was stationed in Hawaii.
He received his Masters and Ph.D. in Anthropology from Syracuse University.
Jim did his field research on Shanty Town's in Trinidad.
He taught at SUNY Oswego for 33 years as an Anthropology Professor retiring in 2005.
Jim served as Past President of Kiwanis, board of Emeritus Assoc., and a member of the New Horizon Band.
He was an avid beekeeper, a SU fan and enjoyed his antique Jaguars. He also enjoyed classical music and had his own radio show at the college.
Surviving are his wife, Cynthia (Wilson) LeFlore; four daughters, Barbara Gowan of Springfield, Mass; Michele (James) Dunne, of Westford, Mass; Renee (Timothy) Mulkerin, of Oswego; Bethany (Jeffery) Van Buren of N. Syracuse; a son, Randall (Cindy) LeFlore of Pepperell, Mass; two brothers, Walter LeFlore, of Poughkeepsie, NY; Ivens LeFlore of Woodbine, MD; three sisters, Pat Francois of Brooklyn, NY; Loretta Wells of Silver Springs, MD; Florence Anderson of Pensacola, Fl; fourteen grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held 3-6p.m. Saturday, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
Spring burial will be in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 45 E. Utica St. or Oswego City Animal Shelter, 621 East Seneca St. Oswego.
