John was the janitor of Pleasant Run Church by Jones Cemetery (also known as Pleasant Run Cemetary) in early 1900s. He was the president for the association of Jones Cemetery. He purchased his plots at Jones for $25-40 in 1905 according to book "History of Jones Cemetery".

OBIT: Andrew Johnson Hankins, 68, widely-known Harrison Township farmer, died at Ball Memorial Hospital last evening following an extended illness. The body was removed to the Meeks Mortuary and funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Mr. Hankins was born in Delaware County and resided for 25 years on a farm one mile west of Reed Station. For the past four years he had resided on a farm on rural route three in Harrison Township. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and Red Men's lodges. Mrs. Hankins died 11 years ago.
Surviving are four sons, George Hankins of Eaton, Harvey Hankins of Muncie, Perry and Cody Hankins at home; a daughter, Mrs. Velma Conner of Shirley; five grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Hankins of Reed Station; one sister, Mrs. Mary Rollins of Muncie; and two half-brothers, Frank Smelser of Paoli, and Newton Keesling of Mechanicsburg.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Run Church with Reverend Max Shafer in charge. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery.
