Dr. Herbert Achenbach, 68, Thief River Falls, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1993, at home after an illness.
Herbert Ralph Achenbach was born June 23, 1925, the son of Edwin and Minnie (Lion) Achenbach, in Bemidji, where he attended school. He served with the Army during World War II, attended Bemidji State University and earned a master's degree in zoology from UND. he taught in Kralstad, Minn., and graduated in 1958 from the University of Minnesota College of Dentistry. He established a dental practice in 1959 and retired in 1987. He married Delores Peterson June 5, 1948, in Blackduck, Minn. She survives with daughters, Jane Achenbach-Ng, Medicine Lake, Minn., Laurie, Carbondale, Ill., Kathy Will, Scandia, Minn., and Peggy, Rushville, N.Y.; sons Jay, New Brighton, Minn., and William, Thief River Falls; four grandchildren; and sister, Francine Holmes, Bemidji. He was preceded in death by sisters, Verona, Leona, Mamie and Lucille, brothers, Edwin, John and two infants. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Thief River Falls. Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Belmont Funeral Home, Thief River, Falls. Burial: St. Bernard's Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
