Major League Baseball Player. For eleven seasons (1952 to 1962), he played at the third-base position with the New York Yankees, Kansas City Athletics, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. Born Andrew Arthur Carey, he attended Saint Mary's College (California), prior to being signed as an amateur free agent by the Yankees in 1950. He marked his Major League debut on May 2nd, 1952 and appeared in 16 games, recording 6 hits that year. By 1954, he had succeeded Gil McDougald as the Yankees' starting third-baseman and in 1955, he produced career-highs in hits with 131 and runs scored with 73, while topping the league with 11 triples. During the course of his career, Carey experienced four American League Pennant-winning teams (1955 to 1958 Yankees), including two World Champion squads (1956 and 1958 Yankees), totaling 16 games with 7 hits. When Don Larsen on October 8th, 1956 pitched his perfect game during the 1956 World Series, Carey was a key factor defensively with to superb plays to ensure the historic event. In 938 regular season games, he compiled 741 hits with a .260 lifetime batting average. Following his baseball career, he worked as a broker. He was formerly married to actress Lucy Marlow.
