Services for Mrs.J.N.(Lillian) Payne, 92, of Midland, will be at 3 p.m. today in the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ted Brain, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Midland, officiating.

Burial will be in the City of Lubbock Cemetery.

Mrs. Payne died at 2:05 p.m. Friday in Midland Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

A pioneer of the Plains, Mrs. Payne was a native of Overton County, Tennessee. She came to Texas in 1897 and moved to the South Plains in 1907.

She married J.N. Payne in 1908 in Ralls. He died in Lubbock in 1965.

Mrs. Payne had been a Ralls resident for forty years, a Lubbock resident for 17 years and a Midland resident for the past 10 years.

She had been a member of the First Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Leon Schrader of Midland; two sons, T. Howard of Lubbock and J.W. of Ralls; four brothers, Amos H Howard and Uris Howard, both of Lubbock, Grady Howard of Crosbyton and Van Howard of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Frank Hill of Tahoka; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. { Lubbock Avalanche-Journal 31 May 1975}
