Daniel "Rio" DeGennaro passed away suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011. He was 56.

He was born in New Castle, Pa., and raised in the Levittown, PA area.

Danny was a graduate of Pennsbury High School, Class of 1973.

He was an extremely talented singer, song-writer, and guitarist extraordinaire, who played with many renowned musical artists all over the world. Music was his heart and soul.

DeGennaro played guitar with national acts such as Kingfish, which included members of The Grateful Dead as well as Clarence Clemons from Bruce Springsteens's E Street Band, Bo Diddley, The James Montgomery Band, Steve Kimock, The Rio Band, Billy Squier, Trident and members of Philadelphia's own, "The Hooters" including other Hall of Fame artists. He also headed his own band, The Danny DeGennaro Band.

An accomplished musician, DeGennaro is perhaps best known for his tenure in Kingfish, a group formed in 1973 that gained attention the following year when Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir joined the group. DeGennaro joined Kingfish in 1979 and performed alongside Weir. The band released its last studio album in 1999. DeGennaro played with Kingfish in 2010 on their "Live and Kicking" tour.

Danny was an optimist who always looked for the best in things. He loved to spend time with his daughter, family, friends, and puppy, Lucy. Danny had a passion for cooking and enjoyed relaxing and watching movies.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christina (McInnis); his parents, Jack Jr. and Dolores DeGennaro; and his brother, Jack DeGennaro III.

He will be greatly missed by his loving daughter, 'who was his biggest fan,' Gianni Marie DeGennaro; and her mother, Lisa Kingston; his brother, Gary, and sister, Linda. He also was loved by his nephews, Christopher, Joey, and Vincent; and aunts, cousins, and many friends. He will live on through his soulful lyrics and music.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Galzerano Funeral Home, 3500 Bristol-Oxford Valley Road in Levittown,PA and from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Our Lady of Grace Church in Penndel,PA. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
